14 Months
Here we are, busier than ever!  Two is a lot when they are toddlers, uphta!  But along with the drama, comes the most amazing interactions and they are just so funny!  At the moment we're enjoying some seriously irrational behavior from Josiah who's getting a molar.  I think the word is 'Tantrum'  and we're getting a lot of those these days.  Emma is so sweet and she has more recently become extremely shy and sensitive.  Her Lamby toy is constantly in her arms.   We are enjoying watching them experience new things like the lake and sand and flowers and slides and pokey grass :)

11 Months
Can it be 11 months already???!!!  Wow!  Our life is a different kind of busy  these days.  Both kids are moving around like crazy, crawling and walking/running with push walkers.  They are very vocal and loudly I might add.

Emma is a total go-getter and loves to push the boundaries.  She has two teeth on the bottom and one coming in as we speak on the top.  Recently she's started to just sit on our laps for a little cuddle time between racing around and fighting with her brother.  Her infectious smile makes us laugh.

Now that Josiah is crawling, we are finding him in unusual places, like under the buffet, table or in a corner pulling out plugs.  He's had a rough couple weeks because four of his upper teeth decided to come in at once.   Josiah is super ticklish and loves to push his little dump truck around the house.  We' ve discovered he's more of an introvert, though once he warms up, you'd never know.

Its a really fun age and now that we can go for walks or to the park, the days don't seem so long.  Yeah for spring!

6 Months
We are sure having a lot of fun and definately keeping busy.  I apologize for not updating as often as I should.  The kids are now 6 months and they are changing all the time.  Everyday it seems they are doing something new.  Josiah says "Daddy"  all the time.  He's still my cuddler.  Emma is constantly on the go, she is practicing walking while we hold her hands and rolls across the room now.  They are both so sweet and even when they're crabby we're so greatful for such beautiful and different kids.

Well, this is just a couple days before we delivered. 38.5 weeks.

4/19/05
Well, what can be said, but we feel more than blessed to be having twins.  Last May 2004 we miscarried our first pregnancy, so when we found out we were pregnant again in October we were overjoyed.  Then we were even more pleased at our first ultrasound to see a beautiful beating heart, something we weren't able to see last May.  As the technician began moving the monitor around, he asked if we were seeing what he was, of course we weren't cuz it was just a bunch of static on the screen to us.  Then he said the words neither of us will ever forget, "I think we have a multiple situation here."  He started to look for more and I wanted to tell him to stop, two was plenty thank you.  "Multiple situation" immediately summons thoughts of quintuplets and limousines of strollers in my mind, so I was glad when he clarified later that it looks like twins.  Both our hearts were racing and I squeezed Eddy's hand, crazy bananas!  I had sort of forgotten twins were a possiblity due to family history (both Eddy's and my grandma were twins) and some medication I was on.  But as I saw the tiny heart beat, I felt such relief, they were both alive and growing! For about an hour or two after the initial discovery I could only say two words, "Crazy Bananas!"  Its hard to deny mixed emotions, elation because they were healthy and overwhelmed because there were two of them.

As the months have moved on and we've gotten a little more used to the idea and especially as they wriggle around almost constantly in my growing belly, we are certainly looking forward to their arrival to the outside world.  We still don't feel like this is even real.  How do you prepare for something you have and most everyone you know has never experienced before?  Two at once.  We have both realized we just have know idea what to expect, but will try and roll with the punches.  We have received so much support, prayer, and generosity from those around us, its really given us much peace. We just continue to pray that they are strong and healthy and that God will prepare us for the unbelievable ride before us.

We are due June 25, 2005, but with twins full term is usually 36 wks, so we are anticipating them coming around the end of May if not sooner.  We are trying to be prepared for anything.  At 28 weeks the doctor said I already looked full term for a singleton pregnancy.  That was so reassuring considering sometimes I feel so big, I can't imagine how huge I would be and how I'd even walk by the end of May.   But I really want them to be a healthy weight, so I try not to think to hard about it.

The last few weeks I have become more and more uncomfortable and definately less mobile.  The doctor has recommended I stay off my feet more, so my wonderful husband who hasn't complained the entire time, even through the morning sickness when I couldn't look at food, has taken up dish washing :)  He's the best!  ---Shawna

Our Growing Family

It finally happened!  After an excruciating last 3 weeks we had to be induced.  In all of the doctor's some 5000 deliveries (because he's a high-risk doctor, he delivers lots of twins), he said he can count on one hand how many twin pregnancies he's had to induce.  We were almost 39 weeks, practically unheard of for a multiple pregnancy and then we were able to deliver naturally, avoiding a very-probably C-section.  From beginning to end we have felt the hand of God on this whole process.  The pregnancy and delivery were virtually complication-free.
On Thursday, June 16 we headed to the hospital bright and early to be induced.  The contractions were mild and didn't start growing really until about 2:30pm when my water broke, then they grew exponentially, though I was only at a 3. Then they gave me the epidural and life took on a whole new joy.  I support drugs during labor, they are awesome!  Drugs for everyone!  I was happy and pain-free, I even slept for a bit.  After the drugs, I moved to a 9 in a little over an hour.  Then they had me push for about 3 more hours until they moved me down to the operating room.  They had me deliver in the OR just in case they needed to do an emergency C-Section or one of the twins needed neo-natal care right away.  Let me tell you, the drugs really helped me from being inhibited by the approx 15 doctors, nurses, and medical students who became my audience!  Each baby had his/her own team of NCIU nurses and a doctor, plus watching a twin delivery is something every medical student wants to see apparently :)  Lucky for me!
After some more pushing and a lowering of my epidural so I could actually feel the contractions, Josiah was born.  He came out screaming bloody murder!  Josiah's team rushed in to take care of him.  After some more severe pushing, mind you I just delivered one baby, Emma arrived with a little help. Then her team scooped her off.  Because I was basically mentally unavailable, I don't remember much of the rest, but I do remember squeezing Eddy's hand like there's no tomorrow.  He was such a trooper during everything and really one of the best parts of this whole thing was having him by my side through every stage.
They are both so healthy and beautiful, we are truly blessed, twice!  It is really fun to see them mature and develop.  They are both so different.  Josiah is a cuddler with some major spunk.  Emma is a dreamer and is perfectly happy laying by herself.  Life hasn't exactly been easy since we brought them home, but we are taking it a day at a time.  The hymn "I Need Thee Every Hour"  has really taken on a whole new meaning for me.  People have been so generous, even folks we don't even know have rallied around us and brought us meals or given in other ways, we feel so humbled.

Enjoy the pictures!
